Credentialing Tips

Edit

Credentialing Tips:

NYS License – Consider applying as a PGY-2 if you wish to moonlight outside of MSH and before starting fellowship (in the appropriate state). Requires USMLE Step 3.

Elmhurst Credentialing

If possible, start this process ~March 1st during your PGY2 year

  • ACLS & BLS renewal – schedule through Mount Sinai Peak or by calling Nursing Education at 212-824-7240. The department covers the cost.

  • N95 Mask fitting - yearly, often provided outside of the cafeteria at MSH

  • Health clearance - call Employee Health Services at 824-7689.

  • Submit paperwork to the residency coordinator who will then send it on to Aura Torres (TORRESA9@nychhc.org, 718-334-2792) at EHC. All rising-PGY3’s must be cleared by June 15th or House Staff office will not let you start at EHC.

  • Once cleared, you can set up meetings with EHC House Staff Office, ID Office, computer training, and Stephanie Nelson in the EHC Neurology Dept.

Bronx VA Credentialing

The VA Central Office has mandated two rules that impact on the processing of residents (including fellows) coming to the VA on a clinical rotation.

  1. All residents (including fellows) must be fingerprinted and the fingerprints cleared before they are given access to the VA computer system. The clearance takes 24 hours, and therefore must be done in advance of the resident's first day. To cope with the influx of new interns/residents and fellows at the start of the new academic year, the VA Police and Security personnel will at times come to Mount Sinai in late June to obtain the fingerprints there.

  2. All residents need to complete the VA Mandatory Training for Trainees (which includes “Information Security and Privacy”) before computer access can be assigned. This course can be completed online, and should be done before Day 1 of the rotation.
