Residents will have the opportunity to evaluate their supervising faculty after every rotation. Evaluations are sent to the Program Director. The results are de-identified, pooled, and sent on to the faculty members. This system assures anonymity of individual evaluations, and allows for the evaluation of faculty in additional roles that are important for resident education such as conference preceptors, clinic preceptors and consultants. If any problems are identified in the faculty's teaching, the situation is addressed by the Program Director or Chairman who makes recommendations ranging from a change in teaching style to a course on teaching skills. The faculty also receive feedback and instruction in teaching skills at Faculty and Education meetings.
Each resident completes a yearly program evaluation on New Innovations, mandated by the ACGME. In addition, at every Program Director meeting, the resident is asked to provide constructive feedback about the residency program. At the end of residency, the Chairman or Program Director conducts an exit interview with each out-going PGY-4 resident during which time they inquire about the strengths and weaknesses of the program from their perspective.
