Crash Course in EMG:
Purpose: to determine the presence/location of problems in the PNS
Lesions and examples of disease processes:
Motor neuron (anterior horn cell): Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Dorsal root ganglion: Sensory neuronopathy (sjogren’s/paraneoplastic)
Nerve root: Radiculopathy
Axon: Toxic neuropathy
Myelin: Guillain Barre syndrome
Neuromuscular junction: Myasthenia gravis
Muscle: Myopathy
Electrodiagnostic study is comprised of two parts: Nerve Conduction Study and Electromyography
